Responsibilities and Expectations for Teaching Faculty
As key contributors to the educational environment, teaching faculty members play a vital role in shaping the academic and moral development of students. The following principles and practices are expected to be upheld by the faculty in order to ensure the creation of a positive, respectful, and academically rigorous atmosphere:
- Professionalism and Role Modelling
Faculty members should maintain decorum both inside and outside the classroom, striving to set a positive example for students. They should serve as role models, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and respect in all their interactions. - Punctuality and Commitment
Punctuality and dedication to their teaching responsibilities are essential. Faculty members should be consistent in their service delivery and ensure they fulfill their academic commitments with dedication and sincerity. - Modesty in Appearance
Faculty members should dress modestly and in a formal manner, maintaining a professional appearance that reflects the institution’s values and expectations. - Respect for Democratic Values
Teachers should respect and promote the core values of democracy, patriotism, and peace, ensuring that these principles are reflected in both their teaching and interactions with students and colleagues. - Mutual Respect Among Colleagues
Faculty members should treat their colleagues with the same respect and professionalism they expect in return. Collaboration, support, and mutual respect are essential for a productive and harmonious academic environment. - Assistance and Cooperation
Faculty members should offer assistance to their colleagues whenever possible, fostering a collaborative and supportive teaching environment. This includes providing professional guidance, sharing resources, and offering help in academic or administrative matters. - Responsible Conduct and Demeanor
Faculty should adhere to the expected conduct and demeanor of the academic community, demonstrating responsibility and respect for the institution’s values and goals. They should maintain a high standard of ethics in all professional activities. - Respect for Students’ Rights and Dignity
Teachers must always respect the rights and dignity of students, ensuring that their opinions and concerns are heard and addressed in a respectful manner. Faculty should provide constructive feedback and foster an inclusive and respectful learning environment. - Student Motivation and Community Engagement
Faculty should motivate students to enhance their personal attributes, while also encouraging them to engage in activities that contribute to the welfare of the community. Teachers should inspire students to become socially responsible individuals. - Encouragement of Co-Curricular Participation
It is essential for faculty members to encourage student participation in both curricular and co-curricular activities, as well as in extension programs that contribute to their holistic development. - Fostering Research and Critical Thinking
Faculty should cultivate a research-oriented mindset among students, encouraging them to develop critical thinking skills and participate in academic inquiry. Teachers should actively promote and guide students in research activities. - Friendly and Supportive Attitude
Faculty should maintain a friendly, approachable, and supportive attitude towards students. They should never hold past mistakes against students and must create an environment where students feel comfortable seeking guidance and assistance. - Post-Class Support
Faculty members should make extra efforts to address student concerns, queries, and apprehensions, especially after class hours. This shows dedication to ensuring that students fully understand the material and are supported in their academic journey. - Respect for National Values
Faculty should instill in students a sense of respect for the nation’s heritage, national goals, and integrity. Encouraging pride in the nation’s values is integral to developing responsible and engaged citizens. - Impartiality and Fairness
Faculty should treat all students impartially, without regard to caste, creed, religion, political affiliation, or social background. Fairness, equity, and justice must guide all academic and personal interactions with students. - Counseling and Guidance
Faculty should act as counselors and facilitators, offering guidance and support to students both academically and personally. They should help students navigate their educational and career paths with understanding and care. - Cooperation with Administrative Authorities
Faculty should cooperate with higher authorities and actively support the implementation of educational programs, including advising and counseling students. They should assist in the smooth execution of academic activities such as admissions, examinations, invigilation, evaluations, and other administrative tasks.
